Making Progress: Hispanic Christian Leaders Meet with Congress on Immigration Reform

Senator Ted Kennedy welcomed NHCLC board members to the Senate and recognized the organization as the Nation's
largest Hispanic Christian organization. The comments came in the introduction of a Press Conference
for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Senator Kennedy thanked the NHCLC and stated that the organization was the
most influential in the issue of Immigration Reform. Joining Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, NHCLC President, at the Press
Conference were Sen. Ken Salazaar, Sen. Bob Menendes, Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rep. Luis Guiterrez, Rep. Jeff Flake,
and Dr. Richard Land, Southern Baptist Leader.
Earlier in the day, staff members from the offices of Speaker
Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reiterated the influence and importance of the NHCLC and the
faith community in the issues currently before Congress. Congressional leaders from both sides of the aisle
acknowledged the leadership role NHCLC has taken in respect to immigration, marriage and family, poverty and Life issues.
Also Making Progress: NHCLC meets with Presidential Hopefuls McCain and Brownback
National Board Members for the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference meet with Sen. John McCain and Sen.
Sam Brownback. The Latino Evangelical leaders discussed immigration and faith values from the Latino perspective.
The conversations were transparent and forthright.
The Brownback meeting concluded with a moment of prayer and intercession.
