Latino Minister Fires up Ebenezer on King Day
Atlanta (CNN) – In all the 45 years of a commemorative service on the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., there had never been a Latino delivering the keynote address.
That changed Monday as the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez took the podium and belted out a sermon that would have surely made King proud. His message was sown together with the language of faith and justice:
King Center Week Events Underway
ATLANTA (WAOK)- Plans have been announced to mark the beginning of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The 2013 observance of Dr. King’s birthday is following the theme, “Remember! Celebrate! Act! King’s Dream for Our World.”
Events run from Friday, January 11, 2013 through the MLK holiday on January 21. All events, except the Annual
Salute to Greatness Awards Dinner, are free of charge.
Observance Celebrates ‘I Have a Dream’ Speech Milestone, 84th Birthday
A 10-day observance celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech and his 84th birthday anniversary on Jan. 15 kicks off this week.
“Remember! Celebrate! Act! King’s Dream for Our World” is the theme of the 2013 observance of King’s birthday, announced by the King Center on Jan. 5.
All events, except the annual Salute to Greatness Awards Dinner on Jan. 19, are free to attend.

A Legacy of Excellence: Generations of African American Exceptionalism in the United States. This exhibit by Atlanta artist Nelson Williams honors both the historical and contemporary contributions of African-Americans and is presented in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. U.S. Pays Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. as Barack Obama Celebrates 2nd Term
The United States honoured the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday by holding tributes and commemorative services, with crowds of people expected to attend events in Atlanta, hometown of the slain civil rights leader.
With the inauguration of President Barack Obama taking place on the same day as the national holiday marking King's birth, among the many events is a so-called watch party at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church with the events from Washington shown on a giant screen.

On a day of remembrance of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., many honor civil rights leader's philosophy of peace and nonviolence; call attention to the rights of the poor, immigration reform and unemployment.
