History and Purpose

In 2008, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, America’s largest Hispanic Christian and Evangelical organization, the Hispanic National Association of Evangelicals, approved a resolution identifying education and addressing the disparity in the community as one of the 7 directives or priorities for the 34,218 member churches.  As a result, the association approved the formation of a subsidiary, The Alliance for Hispanic Christian Education, for the purpose of facilitating a messaging and mobilization platform in order to address the aforementioned challenges while simultaneously offering viable solutions.

In addition, via a partnership with the Jesse Miranda Center, the Alliance identified three areas that pose challenges and opportunities; recruitment and retention, financial sustainability and ethno cultural contextualization. With support from Alliance members such as Oral Roberts, Regent, Gordon Conwell, Indiana Wesleyan and Liberty Universities, this historic summit emerged as an opportunity to convene the leaders of Christian educational institutions in order to discuss the challenges and effectively offer solutions that will engage the Evangelical and the Christian community at large as senior advocates of a Hispanic Christian education initiative.

Finally, today offers an opportunity for engagement and empowerment as we equip a generation with the necessary educational tools for both vertical and horizontal success.  All for the Glory of His Name!

The Alliance for Hispanic Christian Education exists to significantly increase Hispanic Secondary and Post-Secondary graduation rates by establishing strategic partnerships between Hispanic Evangelical churches and Christian colleges and universities.

Alliance Vision

1. By 2015, Christian Colleges and Universities will work arduously to increase Hispanic enrollment to a minimum metric of 25% of total enrollment. Consequently, the College or University will be recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institute by the federal government and thus will receive additional funding and resources.

2. Beginning with the 2011-2012 School Year, Christian Colleges and Universities will provide three full scholarships to qualifying Hispanic students and will provide the scholarships until at least the 2014-2015 school year.

3. The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Hispanic National Association of Evangelicals, hereby designates the first Sunday of September (September 4th, 2011) as National Hispanic Education Sunday. On this Sunday, over 30,000 Hispanic Evangelical churches will receive the resources in order to both preach on the importance of education but also to provide support mechanisms in order to assure success both at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

4. In January of 2011, in collaboration with regional Alliance for Hispanic Christian Education members, the NHCLC will launch the National Hispanic Christian Adopt a School Campaign. This campaign challenges and assists our churches to adopt one high school located within the community. The partnership between a local High School and a Hispanic Evangelical church will focus on increasing the high school graduation rate of Hispanic students within corresponding community.

5. In January 2011, regional conferences will be held in order to equip local churches with the necessary tools to proactively engage and emerge as a Generation Fuerza congregation. A duly recognized church receives the recognition as a ministry committed to assuring that every child graduates from High School and pursues Higher and/or vocational education. Churches will be equipped with tools and resources to begin; mentoring ministry, ESL courses, 3 to 6 after school tutoring, technology 101, and an On-Line Academy.
