Unified Effort Launched to Reach Youth with the Gospel this August

Portland, Oregon - In partnership with Mike Silva International and more than 25,434 Hispanic churches across the nation, the NHCLC is proud to bring Evangelism Sunday and the Rescate Project together for a powerful ministry opportunity for you and your congregation. Aimed at raising awareness for evangelism throughout the United States, Evangelism Sunday and the Rescate Project will allow congregations an easy way to engage their community and serve youth in need.

On August 1, 2010, Evangelism Sunday will bring more than 25,434 Hispanic churches together in a combined effort to raise awareness for the importance of evangelism, to give individual believers ideas and tools for sharing their faith, and to challenge each one of us to get involved in world evangelism through a unique offering opportunity.

Working closely with Mike Silva International, Evangelism Sunday offers downloadable sermons in both English and Spanish, extensive resources on the web, and a unique evangelism opportunity known as the Rescate Project. It will also challenge individual churches to take a special offering for evangelistic efforts around the world.

Rescate Project: A Unique Opportunity for Deeper Involvement

Using Evangelism Sunday as a way to share the Gospel with young people in need, the Rescate Project will lead you through a specific campaign to give hundreds of backpacks to kids in your area ... right before school starts!

Here is how it works:

1. You and your congregation prepare an estimate for needed backpacks. This is accomplished by estimating the number of young people that live within a mile radius of your church.
2. Get backpacks donated by your local retailers or purchase them for a reduced rate by calling Mike Silva International at 503.614.1552.
3. Promote the Rescate Project within your church. The goal is to get individual members of your congregation to fill one or more backpacks and return them to the church. All supplies can be purchased at a "dollar store" for under $10

   Supplies should include:

   • 4 spiral notebooks
   • 1 medium size Elmer's glue
   • 2 small glue sticks
   • 1 box of colored pencils (sharpened)
   • 1 box of crayons
   • Pencil top erasers
   • Package of #2 pencils
   • Hi-lighter pen
   • Pair of children's scissors
4. Canvas your neighborhood by going door-to-door. Families with children should be given a "coupon" to redeem their backpack at church on Evangelism Sunday (August 1, 2010).
