NHCLC Launches Pentecostal subsidiary, The National Hispanic Pentecostal Congress, Rev. Saturnino Gonzalez...

(Washington, D.C., Hispanic Christian Newswire) America’s largest Hispanic Christian Organization, The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), The Hispanic National Association of Evangelicals, announced today the appointment of Rev. Saturnino Gonzalez, Senior Pastor of Iglesia El Calvario in Orlando, Florida, as the National Commissioner of the Hispanic Pentecostal Congress, a subsidiary of the NHCLC.

“Hispanic Pentecostals compose over 80% of the Hispanic Evangelical community. Without a doubt, this community represents the fastest growing religious demographic in America. How Pentecostals evangelize, plant churches and address social issues may very well be the determining factor in spiritual and social initiatives throughout our nation.” declared Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.

The NHCLC appointed Dr. Saturnino Gonzalez to oversee the Congress. “Pastor Nino, as we call affectionately call him, represents the best of the Hispanic Pentecostal experience. He will assist us in strategic networking and resource allocation to this vast community”, added Dr. Gilbert Velez, NHCLC Chairman.

Gonzalez’s trajectory includes ministerial experience in New York City, Puerto Rico and Orlando where he currently Pastors one of America’s largest Hispanic Congregations, El Calvario. In addition, Rev. Gonzalez, who earned his Doctoral Degree in Ministry, serves as Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Southeastern Spanish District.

“If American Evangelicalism took center stage in the 20th Century National Faith Platform, Hispanic Pentecostalism will stand behind the center pulpit in the 21st Century Cathedral of American Christianity. This network will serve a critical need in contextualizing the narrative of Hispanic Christianity for years to come”, explained Dr. Jesse Miranda, NHCLC Chief Executive and Founder of the Jesse Miranda Center for Hispanic Christian Leadership.

According to Pew Research, Hispanics more and more embrace the Pentecostal experience both from the denominational context and even more surprising from the Catholic faith that in the Hispanic community leans towards the Charismatic stream.

“For years, Pentecostals stood as the fringe stepchildren of the Evangelical community. Today, around the world, the vast majority of Born Again Christians adheres and embraces the Pentecostal faith. In America, the Pentecostal Congress will demonstrate that passionate worship and a spiritual language can coincide with scholarly and theological platforms for the cause of Christ”, declared Dr. Gilbert Velez, NHCLC Chairman.
